Tourism can support education in many ways if it is well designed and managed. The example of Suyatri in the southern Indian state of Karnataka shows how it works. The social enterprise has designed school trips that provide meaningful learning experiences for the students. The visits of the city children to the countryside give the villagers the opportunity to earn additional income. The children learn traditional practices for a more sustainable world from village elders. Workshops prepare them to travel sensitively.
