Exhibition stand and event recommendations:

From 4 March until 6 March 2025 the world’s largest trade travel show, ITB, will take place in Berlin. The tourism trade fair offers exhibitors and trade visitors a wide range of networking opportunities and events. Since 2023, the ITB is exclusively for trade visitors.

As in the past years, Tourism Watch at Bread for the World is present at the ITB to foster a fruitful exchange with the tourism industry and tourism policy makers. Tourism Watch will be sharing an exhibition stand Hall 4.1 (201) with Studienkreis für Tourismus und Entwicklung, Roundtable Human Rights in Tourism, futouris, KlimaLink e.V. and ECPAT Germany.

Events of Tourism Watch at the ITB:

  • Tourism Watch on the Panel: "A Collaborative Tourism Impact Assessment in South Africa"

On 6 March 2025, our partner organization, the Roundtable Human Rights in Tourism, will lead a panel discussion on A Collaborative Tourism Impact Assessment in South Africa. This joint project, also involving leading tourism companies such as Studiosus, DERTOUR Group, and Kneissl Touristik, examines the social impacts of mid-range tourism products.

The discussion will present initial findings from on-site consultations conducted in January 2025 in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and the Kruger National Park region. Alien Spiller, Head of Tourism Watch, will be one of three speakers, sharing insights, key findings, and practical recommendations from 16:25.

The project follows the established Human Rights Impact Assessment (HRIA) methodology and aligns with the German Supply Chain Act, highlighting the role of collaboration in creating sustainable positive change in tourism.

TO DO Award ceremony

This is the 30th time that Studienkreis für Tourismus und Entwicklung is presenting the TO DO Award as part of the international competition for socially responsible tourism. The award ceremony traditionally takes place at the ITB. These are the winners:

  • Get Up and Go Colombia – winner of the TO DO Award 2025

In a conflict-ridden region, the Get Up and Go Colombia project builds bridges between locals and travellers - with city tours, cultural exchange and a Café as an open meeting place. Former conflict victims, disadvantaged young people, and indigenous people are given new opportunities, while visitors discover the culture of Popayán. The project shows how tourism can promote peace and social inclusion.

  • Neha Arora – winner of the TO DO AWARD Human Rights in Tourism 2025:

As the founder of Planet Abled, Neha Arora is committed to inclusive tourism and making travel more accessible for people with disabilities and older people. Inspired by her own family's experiences, she is making the travel industry more accessible step by step. In the TO DO Award Human Rights panel, award winner Neha Arora will talk about the importance of accessible tourism and shares her own experiences (06 March 2025, 15:00 - 15:25, Lighthouse Stage, Hall 4.1).
