Events of Tourism Watch at the ITB:

Keynote “Civic Space Under Siege - The Future of Tourism as a Freedom Economy”

On Tuesday, March 5 from 11.45. am to 12.15. pm, Antje Monshausen, Head of Economics and Sustainability at Bread for the World, will be the keynote speaker and interview partner on the Diversity & Inclusion Track. The session titled "Civic Space Under Siege - The Future of Tourism as a Freedom Economy" will take place on the Green Stage in Hall 3.1.

Around 85% of the world's population lives in countries where fundamental freedoms are severely restricted. This poses increasing challenges for the tourism industry, which depends on international cooperation and individual freedoms. In her keynote speech, Antje Monshausen will take stock of the future of tourism as an economic freedom.

On Thursday, March 7th, 2024 from 3.50. pm to 4.15 pm, Tourism Watch, together with ECPAT Germany, will participate in a panel discussion on the topic “Voluntourism – Responsible re-start for child protection” at the Lighthouse Stage in Hall 4.1. Short-term volunteer work poses many risks to the well-being, cognitive and emotional development of children. Best-practice examples from tour operators will highlight what needs to be done to ensure the protection of children when involving volunteers.
