Seminar: Precarious futures for gender equality in the post-COVID tourism world

In an online seminar, the International Transforming Tourism Initiative took a look at the consequences of COVID-19 on working conditions for women. Moderated by Stroma Cole, Equality in Tourism, Angela Kalisch - Equality in Tourism, Baiq Sri Mulya (Lia) -  Women in Tourism Indonesia, Ernest Cañada - Alba Sud, Spain, and Khawla Zainab -  IT for Change, India presented current challenges for women. This includes the increasing precarization of work in hotels and current trends such as the further penetration of the job market by booking platforms and the increasing interest in private overnight stays in village communities.

In order to improve the working conditions of women, three things are needed above all: legislation, unionization, and more power to working people.
