The COVID-19 pandemic is forcing destinations around the world to reshape their tourism strategies. In the handbook "Encouraging Sustainable Tourism Practices", the EU's European Travel Commission confirms its position, that the current dramatic situation is also an opportunity to initiate an overdue change. The upcoming transformation should lead to a more positive contribution to society and a reduction of the tourism sector’s impact on the environment.
The handbook is targeting national tourism organisations and destination management organisations. It provides definitions and basic knowledge on sustainable tourism as well as case studies, practical examples, and recommendations for action. The aim is to promote knowledge exchange to support the transformation towards more sustainable tourism.
