By René Schärer
René Schärer presents examples of tourism resorts in Brazil that have been blocked by popular movements and federal attorneys and points out the positive side of the present financial crises which may slow down the speculative fever. In the state of Ceará, the resistance is well organized, but in the federal states of Bahia and Rio Grande do Norte the real estate business and building boom is out of control. The promoters of these giant real estate projects are mainly Spanish real estate companies who are finding it difficult to continue their destructive activities along the Mediterranean cost due to regulations on coastal protection.
