Climate Change in the Pacific

Frank Kürschner-Pelkmann looks at the dramatic impacts of climate change on a “sinking tourism paradise”: rising sea levels, coastal erosion, salinated freshwater sources, dying coral reefs, and tropical storms. While tourism is contributing to climate change, in the Pacific it is also seen as a tool to raise awareness for the plight of the people affected by climate change. “Eco”-tourists might and should become activists who, upon returning from the Pacific, will support the cause of the islanders and draw global attention to their concerns.
